    • I have been going to Dr. Irvani for about 10 years. This sounds so lame, but I hated going to the dentist before I started seeing Dr. Irvani. Going to the dentist is still not my favorite thing to do however; the anxiety and fear that used to come along with visits has dissolved. I know that Dr. Irvani will be as gentle with me as possible and... More

    • I have been seeing Dr. Irvani for over 15 years and I couldn't imagine going anywhere else. As anyone knows who goes to him he is very, very good at what he does, and the same goes for the hygienists that he hires. I have never had anything other than a good experience when I've gone to see him. The other thing that I have been impressed with... More

Porcelain Veneers vs. Crowns: Which Is Right for You?

    Last updated 8 months ago

Before visiting your cosmetic dentist to discuss options for correcting dental imperfections, it’s helpful to know which treatments are available to you. Depending on your expectations and the condition of your teeth, your dentist may recommend porcelain veneers or crowns. For a better idea of which is right for you, take a look at this quick comparison:

Do You Hope to Improve Tooth Color?
Porcelain veneers are typically selected when a dental patient wishes to improve the color or shape of his or her teeth. Veneers are constructed from thin layers of porcelain customized for each individual patient, and then bonded to the front surface of the teeth. They will effectively disguise the appearance of stained teeth beneath them and even resist further discoloration. If bleaching is not an option for you, veneers might be the next best thing.

Have Your Teeth Lost Their Natural Structure?
Some patients may elect crowns at the recommendation of their dentists due to tooth decay that compromises the tooth’s strength and integrity. Furthermore, if a tooth has undergone any sort of root canal therapy, it may appear more severely damaged and need to be “capped” using this method. Since these crowns can be made from porcelain, they present a discreet and natural-looking restoration option.

Do You Prefer a More Conservative Approach?
If your teeth are aligned properly and do not suffer from major overcrowding or crookedness, porcelain veneers are typically the most desirable option because they maintain more of the tooth’s natural structure. Veneers require dentists to remove a bit of tooth enamel in order to make room for the bonded shell; however, this level of enamel removal is minor in comparison to how much is shaved off in order to place a crown.

    • Granted I do not need a lot of work done, my dental hygienist does an awesome job each visit. Clean office, courteous staff, no wait time and they send e-reminders and follow up with a call which I am really grateful for due to my busy work schedule. Staying with them unless my work takes me to a different city.
